Stencils, Masks and Cutouts…Oh MY! Annie Silverman, Nov 22 & 23, 10 am -4 pm, $350
Annie Silverman is an experimental printmaker who uses basic techniques for creating masks and stencils to cover up and reveal layers in her colorful, evocative prints. This workshop will be useful for all types of printmaking techniques, although many of the sample prints will contain elements of woodcut and relief printmaking.
Topics to be explored :
Stencil and mask making with different materials: acetate, oil board, paper
Possibilities for using paper stencils made with quality Japanese paper for chine colle’
Overprinting to create additional layers, patterns, colors
Creating cut outs, using moveable hinges, and working with thin wire for special effects
Annie teaches in a very individualized manner and works hard to get each student a bit further in their print making practice.
Annie Silverman is the proprietor of ABRAZOS PRESS , a teaching an professional print studio in Somerville, MA,and has been experimenting with relief printmaking techniques for over 30 years. Her print SUMMONING THE WINDS OF CHANGE was accepted into the Boston Printmaker’s 75th anniversary North American Biennial exhibition ,which will be held this Fall in Boston. Her work is in the collection of The Boston Athenaeum, and the Boston Public Library. She published a limited edition book: The Woodblock Index:22 Years of Woodblocks, in December 2022.
