'OUT OF THE BOX' COLLABORATIVE PROJECT

INVITATION TO ALL MEMBERS:

“OUT OF THE BOX” Call for Participants

Inviting all TRPS artist members to participate in a collaborative experience at Two Rivers Printmaking Studio!

Box Submissions: March 25, 2025

Box Distribution: March 26, 2026

Response Submissions Deadline: May 5, 2026

Show Dates: May 8 – June 30, 2026

Reception: June 5, 2026

Event Details:

Each participant will provide a smallish sealed box with approximately five to seven items inside.  These items may be randomly chosen objects/elements that you would for any reason like to cast into the universe.  There should be no information inside or outside the box that identifies you as the provider of these objects. At the Box Distribution Night event,  you will select a box at random. Therein begins the challenge!

You are invited  to create print(s) in response to the item(s) you find inside your box- use one or more items directly in your print if that makes sense to you as a printmaker; or respond to one or more items, noticing what memories or thoughts they invoke. Up to you!

Interested? Reach out to Janet for more info and to let her know you would like to join the fun!

ADVENTURES IN MONOTYPE WITH SUSAN SMERKA

  • Google Calendar ICS

This intermediate monotype workshop offers a supportive space for artists to explore, experiment, and expand their creative practice. Participants will work with ink modifiers, ghost prints, and a variety of approaches to color and composition. You will learn how to work with multiple plates, how to register your prints effectively, and how to choose the best order for layering.

Artists are encouraged (but not required) to bring motifs or imagery they are currently exploring in their work, with opportunities to develop and transform them through new techniques in the monotype process. Some previous printmaking experience is essential for this class.

Spend a fun and focused weekend with us and leave feeling more confident in your artistic direction and printmaking skills.

Expanding Your Practice of Mokuhanga (Japanese Woodblock Printing) with Patty Hudak

  • Google Calendar ICS

June 13+14 AND JUNE 20+21

$700.00

Open to Beginners & Continuing Students.

This hands-on mokuhanga workshop offers a guided, step-by-step introduction to Japanese woodblock printing while also giving experienced students space to deepen and expand their practice. Whether this is your first class or you are returning to refine your skills, you will be supported at every stage of the process.

Over two weekends, we will move through the full workflow of making a woodblock print, from design to your final edition. There will be time for exploration, test printing, and individual guidance. Students will work with carving, layered color, texture, and printing on a variety of Japanese papers. Our first weekend will focus on carving and test printing. During the second weekend, we will add texture to the block, create final proofs, and print your finished edition. Throughout the workshop, students will explore bokashi (gradation), baren techniques, and the subtleties of printing on different Japanese papers.

This course is designed to be supportive, flexible, and welcoming to allow beginners to build a strong foundation, while more advanced students have the opportunity to push their technique and personal expression. All levels are welcome. We will cover the history of color in Japanese prints, and the potential of mokuhanga as a medium for contemporary printmakers. Beginners are welcome, all materials will be supplied.
