In this two-day course, students will learn techniques for incorporating photographic and drawn marks into their prints through the use of Solarplates. Solarplates are a non-toxic alternative to traditional etching techniques, using just U.V. light and water to create highly tonal and specific images. If you have ever wanted to make a photographic print, or have wanted to make a print that looks like a drawing, this class is for you!
Techniques covered include making photo-positive transparencies, printing intaglio plates, photopolymer relief prints, and developing solar plates. Students will walk away having made a photopolymer print and will have the confidence and technical abilities to incorporate solarplate printmaking into their artistic practice.
Students should have some knowledge of printmaking processes and feel comfortable using a press.
