$700.00

Open to Beginners & Continuing Students. This hands-on mokuhanga workshop offers a guided, step-by-step introduction to Japanese woodblock printing while also giving experienced students space to deepen and expand their practice. Whether this is your first class or you are returning to refine your skills, you will be supported at every stage of the process. Over two weekends, we will move through the full workflow of making a woodblock print, from design to your final edition. There will be time for exploration, test printing, and individual guidance. Students will work with carving, layered color, texture, and printing on a variety of Japanese papers. Our first weekend will focus on carving and test printing. During the second weekend, we will add texture to the block, create final proofs, and print your finished edition. Throughout the workshop, students will explore bokashi (gradation), baren techniques, and the subtleties of printing on different Japanese papers. This course is designed to be supportive, flexible, and welcoming to allow beginners to build a strong foundation, while more advanced students have the opportunity to push their technique and personal expression. All levels are welcome. We will cover the history of color in Japanese prints, and the potential of mokuhanga as a medium for contemporary printmakers. Beginners are welcome, all materials will be supplied.
